Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers are enthralled by the remote control capabilities of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their vehicle or start the motor and even locate it with the smartphone app.
Then, place the fob of the key on an even surface, with the logo side facing upwards. Find the button that opens it, place an object between the cover and the fob and then pull it up with care.
Locking the Doors

To press the manual lock/unlock switch to unlock your key fob, place it with the Volvo logo side up. Find the black button close to the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open a cover which is a cover for the key blade that is manual. You'll require a flathead screwdriver or coin to flip this cover counterclockwise, ensuring that the arrow is aligned with "open."
Starting the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs provide an ease of use and convenience that is not available with manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device, a key fob can lose its charge, or cease working after a certain period of time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, that's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.
If your car is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start accessory, you can also use the key fob to activate this feature. The car will heat or cool at the same temperature it was set to while it was parked. It will it can run for up to 15 minutes.
Use a fingernail to remove the cover from the back of the key fob. A button is located beneath the cover on an angle near the body's edge. Slide it down and then to the right. The cover will come out and slide off and reveal the manual key blade! If you're still having trouble finding the button, search the newly revealed manual key access area to see if there is a hidden slot or lever.

For example, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it by pressing the same button.

The Alarm is turned off
Modern key fobs are much more convenient than a mechanical car key. However, they don't work in a perfect way for a long time, and their batteries eventually go out of service. If you're running out of time or do not want to visit an establishment to have your key fob reset, you can try to achieve it at home.
Lay out your keys along with batteries and any other keys on a clean surface. Find the small black button on the bottom left corner of the key fob, and move it to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the mechanical key blade underneath.
The button to unlock the key fob twice quickly, and you should be able open all the doors as well as the tailgate. By pressing the lock button for 2 seconds, you will be able to close the windows and shut the sunroof when they're equipped. Reconnect the battery, and the alarm will stop. If it doesn't, the owners manual should include a method to reset the alarm.
